Morris Museum
Smithsonian-affiliated museum with the Guinness mechanical music collection and a 312-seat theater.
The Morris Museum is a Smithsonian Affiliate housed on the former Twin Oaks estate in the Normandy Heights area of Morris Township. The permanent collections cover fine art, decorative arts, anthropology, and natural science; rotating exhibitions add depth.
The headline holding is the Murtogh D. Guinness Collection of Mechanical Musical Instruments and Automata, one of the largest such collections in the country and a designated “Save America’s Treasures” project. Music boxes, player pianos, singing-bird cages, and full-figure automata are demonstrated on a regular schedule.
The on-site Bickford Theatre is a 312-seat professional venue hosting concerts (notably a long-running jazz series), plays, and family programming. Tickets are separate from museum admission.
Free on-site parking. Closed Monday and Tuesday.
