Normandy Heights
The estate ridge that gave the Morris Museum its address.
Normandy Heights is an unincorporated section of Morris Township running between Morristown proper and Morris Plains, along Normandy Heights Road and Punch Bowl Road. Developed during the Gilded Age with mansions on large parcels; the Morris Museum occupies the former Twin Oaks estate at 6 Normandy Heights Road, which is a good orientation point if you’re not sure exactly where the area is.
Geographically distinct from Normandy Park (which sits to the south, in the Convent Station area), though they’re often grouped together in conversation. The two share a developer lineage and a Victorian-era sensibility but were laid out separately.
Today the streetscape is single-family residential, generally larger and quieter than the blocks closer to downtown. There’s no commercial strip; you drive in for groceries and dinner.
What’s in the area:
- The Morris Museum campus and Bickford Theatre;
- Surviving Gilded Age homes on large lots, plus mid-century infill;
- Easy access to Route 10 and Speedwell Avenue (Route 202) for north-south travel.
Appeals to: buyers who want lot size and quiet, with the museum and the school district as built-in amenities.
