Willowwood started as Paradise Farm. Plant-collecting brothers Henry and Robert Tubbs bought it in 1908, renamed it for the property’s weeping willows, and spent the next sixty years assembling the collection that survives today. The Morris County Park Commission has owned it since 1980.

The collection holds over 2,100 plant species. Highlights:

  • Magnolias in early spring;
  • Lilacs in May;
  • Roses through summer;
  • Witch hazels in winter (yes, winter blooms);
  • A long allée of unusual oaks and conifers throughout the year.

A self-guided cellphone tour runs April through November. Pets are not permitted anywhere on the property.

Willowwood sits adjacent to Bamboo Brook Outdoor Education Center and the two pair naturally for an afternoon. Free parking at the main entrance off Longview Road.
