Speedwell Lake Park sits behind Historic Speedwell on the north end of Speedwell Avenue. The Morris County Park Commission manages it. The centerpiece is the 20-acre Speedwell Lake, originally created by the Vail family as a millpond for their iron and brass works in the 1800s.

What’s there:

  • A paved loop path around the lake, roughly a mile, popular with walkers and stroller traffic;
  • Picnic groves with grills and tables on the lake’s east side;
  • A playground and a small fishing pier;
  • A connection to the Patriots’ Path regional trail, which continues north toward Lake Valley and south through downtown.

The lake is catch-and-release fishing for bass and pickerel (state license required). Boating is non-motorized only and unsupervised.

Free parking off Speedwell Avenue. An easy add-on if you’re already at Historic Speedwell or heading to lunch at one of the upper Speedwell restaurants.
