Loantaka Brook Reservation
A flat, paved greenway popular with cyclists, joggers, and stroller traffic.
Loantaka Brook Reservation is a 750-plus-acre Morris County Park Commission property spanning four municipalities: Morris Township, Chatham Township, Madison, and Harding. It’s a linear park following the brook, with paved multi-use trails that connect to the broader Patriots’ Path system.
The paths are mostly flat and paved, which makes Loantaka a magnet for:
- Road and gravel cyclists doing easy loops;
- Runners and walkers of all paces;
- Equestrians on the bridle paths (the reservation includes Helen Hartley Jenkins Wood, which has dedicated horse trails);
- Parents with strollers, who can’t find a better paved option in the area.
Three main access points:
- The South Street entrance (468 South Street) has the main parking lot, restrooms, and the picnic groves;
- Kitchell Road access on the north end;
- Loantaka Way South on the east, near the Madison line.
The reservation has no through-roads, so once you’re on the paths you stay car-free for the duration of the loop.
