Lewis Morris County Park
Morris County's first park: roughly 1,150 acres of woods, trails, and Sunrise Lake.
Lewis Morris County Park was the first park established by the Morris County Park Commission, opened in 1958. It covers roughly 1,150 acres of woods, meadows, and ridges along Mendham Road (Route 24) west of downtown.
The park adjoins the Jockey Hollow unit of Morristown National Historical Park, giving the combined area a much larger trail network including the Patriots’ Path regional trail.
What’s there:
- Sunrise Lake with a seasonal swimming beach, paddle boats, and shore fishing;
- The Cedar Ridge mountain bike trail system, the local intermediate-to-advanced singletrack;
- About 20 miles of hiking trails that connect through to Jockey Hollow;
- Group camping (reservable through the Park Commission);
- A disc golf course, picnic groves, and a playground.
Free parking at multiple lots along Mendham Road. Sunrise Lake’s beach takes seasonal day-use fees in summer.
