Burnham Park
Morristown's largest municipal park, with a pond and a public pool.
Burnham Park is the Town of Morristown’s largest municipal park, on the west side of downtown along the Whippany River. Owned and operated by the town (separate from the Morris County Park Commission’s larger holdings).
Features:
- Pocahontas Lake, a small pond with catch-and-release fishing;
- A paved loop walking path that follows the lake;
- The Burnham Park Pool, open Memorial Day through Labor Day (residents and pass-holders);
- Ball fields, a playground, picnic groves, and a basketball court;
- A bronze statue of Thomas Paine on the Washington Street side and a war memorial farther along the path.
The meadow that’s now the open field of Burnham Park served as pasture for Continental Army artillery horses during the 1779 to 1780 winter encampment. The park is a quick walk from the Green; Washington Street takes you straight to it.
