Tuna From NJ Company Recalled Over Toxic Bacteria, FDA Says
Buckhead Meat Company (also known as Trinity Seafood) of Lakewood is recalling 333 pounds of fresh tuna after New Jersey health officials found high levels of scombrotoxin, a bacterial toxin that causes rapid-onset food poisoning with symptoms ranging from facial flushing and nausea to, in severe cases, respiratory stress. The tuna was sold to restaurants in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and Maryland, and the tricky part is that cooking, freezing, or canning won’t destroy the toxin.
