'There Was No Playbook' NJ Mom Says Of Daughter's Clinging Jellyfish Encounter
A 6-year-old Brick girl named Amelia Colvin is believed to be the first child stung by a clinging jellyfish in New Jersey, after an encounter in the Metedeconk River left her with a large welt and significant pain for four days despite multiple ER visits. The invasive species, which are hard to spot and tend to hide in aquatic vegetation, have been tracked in New Jersey waterways since 2016 and typically die off once water temperatures stay above 85 degrees for several days.
