Somerset County Sheriff’s Office Condemned Over Alleged Religious Discrimination

A Muslim man is suing the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office, claiming he was offered a deputy position and then pushed out after requesting religious accommodations to keep his beard and pray five times daily during training. The office told him the decision came down to budget cuts, but the lawsuit alleges that explanation was a cover for religious discrimination, and CAIR-NJ is calling on the office to address what it describes as a pattern of bigotry.
