Poison-Resistant Mice And Rats Spread Across NJ, Study Finds

Rutgers researchers studied mice and rats across New Jersey and found that many house mice carry genetic mutations that help them survive the anticoagulant poisons commonly used in pest control. The most widespread resistance trait showed up in 59 percent of samples, with urban areas like Trenton and Paterson seeing some of the highest concentrations. The lead researcher recommends leaning on sanitation and physical exclusion alongside chemicals, since swapping poisons alone won’t stop the rodents from evolving around them.
