Off-Duty NJ Lifeguard Saves Girl From Rough Ocean Currents

Off-duty Cape May Point lifeguard Ryan Gibson was playing volleyball after his shift on Aug. 12 when he spotted an 11-year-old girl being pulled out by rough currents and jumped in to save her. Two other off-duty lifeguards heard the rescue on radio and responded as well, and the girl was treated on scene after being brought ashore safely. Gibson walked away with minor scrapes from the rock jetty, which feels like a fair trade.
