NJ Layoffs Spike With Nearly 4,500 Job Cuts In Summer

New Jersey employers filed more than 30 WARN Act notices this summer, announcing nearly 4,500 layoffs from June through August, a figure more than 2.5 times higher than the same period in 2025. Samsung led the summer cuts with 918 positions eliminated across Englewood Cliffs and Ridgefield Park, while Verizon, Novartis, Mars/Wrigley, HelloFresh, and JP Morgan Chase also made sizable reductions, pushing the statewide 2026 layoff total to nearly 13,000, up 45 percent from this point last year.
