Morris County To Join Nationwide Reading Of Declaration Of Independence
On Wednesday at 6 p.m., Morris County will gather on the front lawn of the historic courthouse at 56 Washington St. to read the Declaration of Independence in sync with communities across all 50 states, as part of the “Sharing the Spirit of America” initiative marking the document’s 250th anniversary. The free event kicks off with the Colonial Musketeers Senior Ancient Fife and Drum Corps, features readings by county commissioners and constitutional officers, and wraps up with Bomb Pop treats, a traveling mural, and a courthouse exhibit on Morris County’s legal history. If the weather doesn’t cooperate, the whole thing moves indoors to the historic second-floor courtroom.
