Rising grocery and gas prices are squeezing household budgets across the country, with Patch readers reporting they’re cutting back on meat, skipping meals, and stretching leftovers further than ever. A Century Foundation survey found two-thirds of Americans have switched to cheaper groceries or bought less food in the past year, and food insecurity has more than doubled since 2020, hitting those on fixed incomes and in car-dependent areas especially hard.
