Ex-NJ Superintendent Who Said He Was Fired Because He's Gay Gets 6-Figure Settlement

John Berenato, the former superintendent of Manchester Township Schools who was fired in 2023 and alleged the dismissal was rooted in anti-gay bias, has reached a $265,000 settlement with the district’s insurance company. That figure comes on top of nearly $500,000 in back pay he already received after the state ruled his firing violated tenure laws.
