Ex-Gambino Family Enforcer Turned NJ Councilman Charged In Loan Scheme
John Alite, a 63-year-old Englishtown councilman and former Gambino crime family enforcer, was arrested Friday on charges including theft by extortion, usury, and terroristic threats, after allegedly making illegal high-interest loans and threatening victims with violence. Authorities also charged Bridgewater resident Stephen Locrotondo as a co-conspirator, and say Alite used his entertainment company, Straightened-Out Entertainment, to run the scheme. Englishtown’s mayor says the allegations appear unrelated to borough business and notes the council has no legal authority to remove Alite from his seat.
