Elephant-Sized Meteor Buzzes Earth: Weird News & Oddities

An elephant-sized meteor (literally, it weighed about as much as one) streaked over New England, rattled windows with a sonic boom equivalent to 230 tons of TNT, and splashed into Cape Cod Bay after traveling 26 miles through the atmosphere. The fireball was visible from New Jersey to Quebec, briefly convincing some residents there had been an earthquake, a falling tree, or, naturally, an alien invasion.
