Drunken Driver Faces Judge After Fatal Morris Co. Crash

Alexander Serrano, 34, of East Rutherford was sentenced to five years in prison after pleading guilty to reckless vehicular homicide in the April 2025 death of his passenger, Esmerelda Melchar, who died when his van struck a tree on Howard Road in Roxbury. Serrano, who showed signs of intoxication at the scene, is subject to the No Early Release Act.
