Driver Who Killed Tow Truck Driver On I-287 Indicted By Jury, Family Says

A Morris County grand jury has indicted Pierre Innocent, 54, on vehicular manslaughter charges in the July 2025 death of tow truck driver DJ Ortiz, 24, who was struck and killed while assisting a disabled vehicle on the shoulder of I-287 in Harding Township. Ortiz’s employer, Ron and Sons Towing, has been advocating for the family since the crash and credited the community’s persistence with pushing for both the indictment and new highway safety reminders across New Jersey.
