Dollar General Sued By NJ, 19 Other States Over ‘Bait-And-Switch’ Pricing

New Jersey has joined the FTC and 19 other states in suing Dollar General, accusing the discount chain of routinely charging customers more at the register than the prices shown on shelves, tags, and ads. The 95-page complaint says Dollar General received over 29,000 “Did Not Honor Marked Price” complaints in a little over three years, and FTC undercover shoppers found overcharges on every single test run they conducted. This isn’t Dollar General’s first rodeo with NJ either: the company already paid a $1.2 million settlement to the state back in 2023 over the same kind of pricing problems.
