Andes Hantavirus: What You Should And Should Not Worry About
A deadly Andes hantavirus outbreak aboard the cruise ship MV Hondius killed three passengers and sickened nearly a dozen others, prompting experts to urge calm while taking the situation seriously. Scientists note the virus has been known for over 30 years, hasn’t become more infectious, and spreads mainly through close contact rather than airborne transmission like COVID. Sixteen U.S. passengers are quarantined at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, with two others at a specialized facility at Emory University in Atlanta.
