20 Killed By Weather, Whale Sinks Boat, Lightning Sparks Church Fire: NJ Weekend
At least 20 people died in New Jersey over the July 4th weekend from weather-related causes, including 19 suspected heat deaths and one storm fatality in Scotch Plains, while three others were injured in a Passaic shooting. The weekend also brought a lightning-sparked roof fire at a Medford church and an only-in-Jersey moment when a breaching whale sank a Carteret Fire Department boat in Raritan Bay.
