Mount Kemble
South of the Green along Route 202 toward Harding and the Great Swamp.
Mount Kemble Avenue is US Route 202 running south of the Morristown Green through southern Morristown and Morris Township toward the Harding Township line and eventually the Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge.
The corridor is named for the 1847 Gothic Revival villa “Mount Kemble”, itself named for colonial official Peter Kemble. The Pruddentown Historic District along this stretch preserves a cluster of buildings around the area where Joseph Prudden settled around 1740.
Character is mixed:
- Older single-family homes near downtown grade into larger lots as you head south;
- Mid-century condominium and townhouse developments along the corridor;
- Large former AT&T regional headquarters campuses (Kemble Plaza), now repositioned as multi-tenant office space and partially redeveloped;
- Easy access to I-287 at exits in both directions.
The far southern end of the corridor crosses into Harding Township and reaches the Great Swamp, one of the largest wetlands in the New York metro area.
Appeals to: drivers who want quick access to I-287 and the corporate office market; condo buyers; long-time Morris County residents who grew up on the 202 corridor.
