Turns out plants are way ahead of us on the whole fall-planting thing. While everyone’s busy apple-picking and arguing about whether it’s sweater weather yet, trees and shrubs are quietly dropping seeds that’ll cold-stratify all winter, feed the local squirrels, and maybe, eventually, become a whole new tree. Frelinghuysen Arboretum is leaning into that with this photo scavenger hunt, running September 29 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Spot the seeds, photograph the evidence, complete the hunt, and you’ll walk away with a prize. Bring a kid, bring a curious adult, bring your phone charged above 12 percent.
