Forget the most expensive painting ever auctioned or the one that’s been on every college dorm poster since 1987. Tina Rivers Ryan, former Editor in Chief of Artforum and onetime curator at the Met, argues those rankings don’t actually teach you much about what art can do. On February 9 at the Morris Museum, her Breakfast University lecture walks through five paintings by Rembrandt, Raphael, van Eyck, Monet, and Pollock, chosen for the unexpected things they reveal, plus a bonus work from the museum’s own collection. Doors open at 9:15 AM, lecture at 10:00. Member tickets go on sale July 13, general public July 20.
