Stuart Lefkowitz, historian and author of “Mining Iron in Northwest New Jersey: The People,” is bringing the story of the Mount Hope Mine to the Morristown and Morris Township Library on October 18, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. The mine in Rockaway Township supplied iron munitions to Washington’s Continental Army, which is the kind of local history that makes you feel like Morristown-area soil has been quietly overachieving for centuries. Lefkowitz draws on first-person accounts from twentieth-century mine workers and their families, covering everything from underground blasting to life on the family homestead. The talk is in the Lower Level Meeting Room at 1 Miller Rd.
