Christoph Kӧnig made his US debut in 2009 conducting your New Jersey Symphony in Mahler’s Symphony No. 5. Now one of the orchestra’s closest musical friends, he returns to this piece that started it all. Plus, be the first to hear a world premiere from Resident Artistic Partner A…

The New Jersey Symphony brings a full-circle moment to Mayo PAC on Sunday, March 21 at 2:00 pm. Conductor Christoph König made his US debut back in 2009 leading the orchestra through Mahler’s Fifth, and now he’s back for another go at the piece that kicked everything off. That alone would be worth the drive down South Street, but the program opens with something you genuinely can’t hear anywhere else yet: the East Coast premiere of a new cello concerto by Allison Loggins-Hull, performed by cellist Gabriel Cabezas. Two premieres, one afternoon, and Mahler’s thundering Fifth to close it out. Tickets are available through Mayo PAC or at njsymphony.org.
