The man who painted his mother and called it “Arrangement in Grey and Black” was clearly not interested in playing by anyone else’s rules. This September 16th screening at the Morris Museum brings an Exhibition on Screen documentary about James McNeill Whistler, timed to a major retrospective at Tate Britain. You’ll get the full picture: his friendship with the Impressionists, his theory that painting and music share a language, and the stubbornness it took to chase “art for art’s sake” in Victorian England. Tickets go on sale to the general public July 20th. Call the box office at 973-971-3706 to purchase by phone.
