Echo's of Bird and Dinah - Honoring Charlie Parker & Dinah Washington
Here’s something worth marking on the calendar: Charlie Parker and Dinah Washington share a birthday, August 29th, and vocalist Lynette Sheard and bassist John Lee are heading to the Morris Museum’s Back Deck to honor both of them. Sheard, whose voice Broadway World said “shakes the rafters,” brings serious range across jazz, blues, gospel, and soul. Lee spent nearly a decade as Dizzy Gillespie’s bassist and went on to lead the Dizzy Gillespie All-Stars, so the musicianship here is no small thing. While they perform, muralist Monet Sheard will be live-painting the whole scene. Showtime is 7:30 p.m. Tickets and details are at GregoryBurrusProductions.com.
