Two tour times are available: 11:00am and 2:00pm, both starting at 560 Openaki Road in Denville. This one’s part of the Morris County Historical Society’s sprawling 40-tour walking series, and it follows the Den Brook to a pair of pre-Revolutionary War forges and an 18th-century tavern complex where a enslaved woman named Dinah served patrons, local Native Americans gathered for news, and George Washington reportedly cooled his heels while his horse got new shoes. That’s a lot of history packed into one walk. It’s free and runs rain or shine, but space caps at 50 people per tour and pre-registration is required. Email [email protected] to save your spot.
