The year is 2026, it’s the 150th anniversary of America’s Centennial celebration, and the Metropolitan Vintage Dance and Social Club is marking the occasion with a ball modeled after the exuberant 1876 blowout that made the original birthday party legendary. On August 1st, the Morristown Masonic Center at 39 Maple Ave. hosts the evening from 8 to 11 p.m., with Spare Parts providing period music and light refreshments on hand. Tickets run $50 in advance or $55 at the door ($25 to $30 with a student ID). Come in colonial-to-bustle-era formal or military dress, or just modern cocktail attire if your crinoline is at the cleaner’s. A dance workshop with instructor Martha Griffin runs from 2 to 4 that afternoon and is included with your ticket, so you won’t spend the whole evening shuffling awkwardly near the punch bowl. A portion of proceeds benefits Partners in Charity. Full ticket details are at armisticeball.wixsite.com/centennial-ball.
