3rd-4th Grade Book Club: Because of Winn-Dixie
The summer Opal and her father, the preacher, move to Naomi, Florida, Opal goes into the Winn-Dixie supermarket—and comes out with a dog. A big, ugly, suffering dog with a sterling sense of humor. A dog she dubs Winn-Dixie. Because of Winn-Dixie, the preacher tells Opal ten thing…
If your third or fourth grader spent the summer with Opal, her preacher dad, and a big goofy dog named after a supermarket, this is their payoff. The Morristown Library’s book club meets at the F.M. Kirby Gallery on August 6 at 2:00 p.m. for a half-hour conversation about “Because of Winn-Dixie.” Bring a kid entering third or fourth grade in the fall, bring opinions about Gloria Dump and the bear-fighting librarian, and leave the dog at home. Registration is required, and copies of the book are available in the Children’s Room. Sign up through the library’s event page.
